The
Importance of Flowers
The flowers and decorations
displayed at your
wedding say everything. They are what make the celebration. They
enhance any setting and can literally transform an average looking room into a
beautiful scene.
Imagine
getting all dressed up and then going out barefoot! A wedding without
flowers and decorations would be a lot like that. Try to imagine your
photographs. What would they be of? You would have a picture of an
ordinary cake and an ordinary cake table. The church would look like it did every
week, and your attendants at the head table would be shown just eating.
I am sure you would agree, it’s not a very exciting image.
Because
the flowers are such a significant part of your celebration, it is
important that you choose the right florist. Brides have told me
that choosing the flowers and the florist was their most difficult
challenge. They have also said their florist selection consultation
was time well invested.
How
To Select A Florist
1. Meet
with 2 to 3 florists. A thorough florist should spend time from one to
two hours with you. Find out if the person you are talking to will be buying
and designing your flowers, or are they just a salesperson? Ask to see
pictures of work they have actually done. Anyone can show you a picture
in a design book. Make sure you see their actual work. A florist displaying testimonial thank you notes is an
added bonus.
They should also be willing to give you references from weddings
they have done.
2.
Select a florist that listens to you and really grasps the look and feel you
want. Be open to the florist's ideas and suggestions. In
the long run, it will be the value of their experience, talent, and
expertise that you have purchased.
3. Choose
a florist whose price per item is in the average range. The cost for
flowers and decorations for a full wedding and reception ranges from one
thousand to two thousand dollars. Set a budget range.. The florist can then offer suggestions to help you
stay within that budget. Knowing what you can spend will save you a lot
of time and confusion.
4. Select
a florist that is detail and service oriented. A good florist will not
just drop the flowers off, but will provide full set up service and attend
to the little extras that count.
5. Most important! Choose a florist that you feel
comfortable with and one who is flexible. Remember that every florist
will have his or her own ideas and suggestions for what will be best for
your special day. Each set of ideas will result in a different price
quote. You will never be comparing apples with apples. Don't let price alone to be your
determining factor when making your choice.
If you feel right
about someone, go with your feelings. The rest can be worked out later.
